In the news ------- A foreigner beating a pregnant woman to miscarriage

This is a brief summary of the story

Offence -  'A shift manager, a Lebanese; Kaveh Noine beat up the Cleaning Unit Supervisor Mrs. Alice Ossai in their presence, due to what he deemed negligence on her part, his grouse, a portion of the factory is littered with dirt and she failed in her responsibility to rein in her team to keep the factory floor spick and span'

Punishment - Frantic efforts by Ossai to explain why the portion of the factory was littered with dirt, even after she was assaulted was rebuffed by Noine who shouted her down and asked her to come with him to his office fuming with rage; exasperated staff members on duty went in with Ossai in a bid to collectively explain the supposed duty breach. Noine rained blows on Ossai and kicking her repeatedly, without sparing her tummy even though she was seven months pregnant.
Result - Dead child.

I read this story earlier in the week, not in detail but i just breezed through because the headline was catchy. The president wanted an investigation on the story. But reading in details and seeing pictures brought me close to tears. That wasnt a foetus. That was a fully developed baby which could have been born even at 7 months. I cannot even wrap the story around my head... How do you explain this

- Someone was beaten?
-An employer (who pays N17,000 monthly to his supervisor) beat his employee? Is N17,000 our minimum wage sef
- An employer verbally and physically assaults his employee
-An employer beats a pregnant woman
-An employer beats a 7-month old pregnant woman?

There is no explanation that will ever suffice for this ill treatment, male, female, boy, girl, old young. In a work enviroment how you go dey beat your employee, on top how much?
I even thought abi he did not know that she was pregnant? Nah... a blind man kicking a pregnant woman in the tummy will feel the bulge

So why? When did life of a Nigerian citizen become so cheap in the hands of our fdis so much so that its now okay to physically assault a worker in the first instance. I know its not only in fdis sef. The way we manage human resources in this part of the world is unspeakable.

The reason why this issues persist is not far fetched. Poverty and Unemployment. I think this is a wake up call to us all ( i do not believe in calling government out all the time)
For us to empower ourselves, respect ourselves, appreciate ourselves, fight for ourselves and speak for ourselves. Our labour laws and leaders too....

I wish the victim quick recovery. Its a really sad story. It could be anybody tomorrow. Lets stop talking and start acting...
